About

Maria-Rey Lamslag studied Art and Architectural History (BA) and Cultural Heritage (MA), and has been working as a freelance researcher, curator, and documentary filmmaker under the name Research and Stories since 2016. Her work reflects a strong interest in archival research, the ethics surrounding colonial collections, museology, and the use of text and film in exhibitions. She is also involved in curating contemporary art and design.

As a freelancer, Maria has collaborated with institutes such as MAMA Rotterdam, NEST, the Amsterdam Museum, and the Rijksmuseum. Since 2021, she has been affiliated with the Wereldmuseum as an exhibition developer/curator. She regularly gives guest lectures, for example at KABK and Design Academy Eindhoven, and has served as an external examiner at the Reinwardt Academy since 2022.

In her self-initiated projects, Maria places a special focus on colonialism and Dutch–Indonesian histories.

Maria also has experience and affinity with heritage in a broader sense: from intangible heritage to the built environment and landscapes. In addition to contemporary art, she focused on these subjects during her studies and as a freelancer in the period 2008-2016. As an educator, editor and project manager, she has worked for Aorta Architecture Centre, Kunsten ’92, KNOB/Delft University of Technology, Kunsthal KAdE, Museum De Paviljoens, Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands, Utrecht University Special Collections, Urban-Think Tank, Van Eesteren Museum and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, among others.
